As part of the ongoing project, we intend to make available for purposes of academic research and public knowledge sundry materials that document and represent different moments in Portuguese colonialism, decolonization and the end of the empire.
These materials include written and visual documents, personal testimonies, and memorial and artistic objects that are being collected as a result of ongoing research and the open participation of those who actively contribute to the project through the donation of personal documents and testimony.
These are fragments, small pieces of the complex reality of the past from which we intend to create memory. Taken together they constitute a non-iconic, incomplete, uncertain and imperfect territory. The Archive thus constituted rejects papering over the past and is instead conceived as an open space, always subject to numerous readings and interpretations, and, like the operation of memory, it will never close itself in a definitive configuration.
